
The sculptures run 100% autonomously on wind power, with no electricity. They're designed with aerodynamic vanes that "catch" the wind, offering a relaxing, almost hypnotic visual display. Installing 3 large pieces at strategic points (e.g. Egnatia Park, the seafront) would create a "Wind Trail" for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Vision: Turning Thrace's strong wind from a nuisance... into a tourist attraction. Striking 3-5 metre metal sculptures placed along the seafront avenue. With moving parts that sway and rotate in harmony, they create a living artwork that constantly changes shape depending on the wind's direction and strength. The city gains new, contemporary landmarks.
Indicative Technical Specifications
- Marine-grade materials: Built from marine-grade anodised aluminium and stainless steel (316L), light enough to move freely yet fully resistant to salt air.
- Safety braking system: Built-in centrifugal brakes or an aerodynamic relief design that automatically locks or slows the sculpture in extreme weather (above Beaufort 7) to keep passers-by safe.
- Sealed bearings: Sealed marine bearings for smooth rotation that keeps out sand and salt.
- Heavy foundation: Hidden reinforced-concrete footings beneath the paving for full stability.
