Eco & Smart Showers: Sustainable Water Management at the Beaches

The old beach showers are being replaced with modern, anti-vandal, flow-controlled models. Instead of fragile motion sensors, the system uses piezoelectric time-delay push buttons that automatically cut off the water after 15-20 seconds. The project also connects to the Municipality's Smart City network to detect hidden leaks in real time.

The Vision: A drastic cut in water waste at the city's organised beaches (e.g. EOT Beach), without sacrificing bathers' comfort. Upgrading the infrastructure strengthens the Municipality's environmental profile, helps maintain Blue Flag status, and significantly reduces DEYAA's water supply costs.

  • Replacing 30-40 showers: Using marine-grade stainless steel (316L) exclusively for maximum resistance to salt water and corrosion.
  • Time-delay push buttons: Mechanical/piezoelectric push-buttons requiring no electrical power in the sand, avoiding false triggers (e.g. from wind or birds) and offering strong resistance to vandalism.
  • Low foot-wash taps: A second, low-mounted tap at the base of each shower lets bathers rinse just their feet without activating the main shower head, saving large amounts of water.
  • Smart telemetry (IoT): Smart water meters on the beaches' main pipelines that send alerts to the Municipality in case of a burst pipe or overnight leak.
  • Water savings: Drastically limits careless use.
  • Lower costs: Lower consumption means lower running costs for the Municipality.
  • Environmental awareness: Raises citizens' awareness and upgrades tourist infrastructure.
