Alexandroupoli Traffic Education Park: learning and play for children

About

Looking for a creative and safe outing with the kids in town? The Alexandroupoli Traffic Education Park is more than just a park. It is a specially designed green space that combines hands-on learning with fun, teaching tomorrow's drivers the rules of road safety through play.

A town in miniature

The park is designed as a realistic road network that simulates the real conditions a driver or pedestrian meets in town. Its facilities include:

  • paved roads with proper markings, traffic lanes and pedestrian crossings
  • working traffic lights and realistic road signs, including STOP, give-way and direction signs
  • safe routes, ideal for bicycles and scooters

The park works as a living teaching tool. Schools and kindergartens visit regularly, such as the 23rd Kindergarten of Alexandroupoli in 2024, so children build the right reflexes on the road.

From education to family leisure

With the addition of a refreshment stand in 2011, the park went from a strictly educational centre to a destination for the whole family, where parents relax while the children play safely.

The 2026 windstorm and the renewal

In January 2026 a powerful windstorm hit Alexandroupoli and caused extensive damage to the park's facilities and to the neighbouring Municipal Campsite. The Municipal Tourism and Spa Enterprise of Alexandroupoli (TIEDA) took on the restoration right away.

After intensive work in spring 2026, during which 150 new trees were planted, the park was fully renewed. Today it is open as normal and once again hosts road-safety activities and town events.
